City Hearts is Southern California's preeminent Arts education and enrichment organization providing direct, life-transforming, academic-enhancing programs for our community's most impoverished, at-greatest-risk, and underserved children ages 5-18.
Founded in 1984 by Criminal Defense attorneys, Sherry and Bob Jason, City Hearts is committed to providing the highest quality Arts-based prevention & intervention programs including Photography, Theatre, Shakespeare, Dance, and Music in the poorest communities in Los Angeles County.
Without City Hearts' intervention, our students (ages 5-18) would never have the opportunity to experience the life-changing and healing power of the Arts. City Hearts students need your help!
Low-income students who are engaged in the Arts are more than twice as likely to graduate from college as their peers with no Arts education. Low socioeconomic status students with a high participation in the Arts have a dropout rate of only 4 percent, while their peers with low participation of the Arts have a dropout rate of 22 percent.
Students with a rich Arts education have historically earned higher GPAs and scored higher on the SAT than students without Arts education. The more years of the Arts students take, the higher their SAT scores, on average.
City Hearts provides services throughout Los Angeles County, which is the largest and most populous county in the nation with 1745 schools, and 1.7 million students in 82 schools districts. The current county-wide ratio is one Arts specialist for every 1200 students. Only a small fraction of LA County students are receiving any vital Arts programming.
City Hearts transforms the lives of more than 800 students each week
In the 2017-2018 school year, City Hearts inspired children in 11 sites throughout LA County, in Boyle Heights, Compton, Long Beach, Paramount, South Central, and Sylmar
Your donation will enable City Hearts to continue to provide life changing Arts programs at no charge, to over 800+ children per week and allow us to expand to support many other children in need.
Your donations will help sponsor and fund photography classes in under-served communities. Any amount will help. This event was made possible by people like you.
